"Everything is connected:
How we move, how we feel, what we do."

-Janet Hare, PT

Janet Hare brings 24 years’ experience providing excellent patient focused care.  She began her career as a physical therapist in 1998 after graduating summa cum laude from Old Dominion University.  She was recognized at ODU with the Phi Kappa Phi academic excellence award and was also recognized nationally with the National Outstanding Academic and Community Service award by the Association of Schools of Allied Health Professionals.

Since 2005 she has focused on adult orthopedic care with a specialty in manual medicine.  She has studied dry needling, osteopathic manipulative techniques, myofascial release, cupping, craniosacral, active release technique, and energy medicine.  Janet has treated many patients across the continuum of rehab settings including acute hospital, subacute skilled nursing facilities, inpatient rehab facilities, home health, and outpatient orthopedic, geriatric, and pediatric care.

She takes a holistic approach to assessment and treatment.  She analyzes postural and mechanical dysfunction, centralizes and balances the joint, and re-educates the muscles around the joint to decrease pain and dysfunctional movement patterns.  She focuses on retraining the brain to improve movement patterns with patient education improving patient awareness and self-care strategies. She partners with her patients to correct the root cause of pain and movement dysfunction.

Janet’s practice philosophy focuses on the integration of biotensegrity.  “The compression-resistant bones of our skeleton are smaller elements of a larger supporting framework, the musculoskeletal system, which is comprised of an interconnected network of bones, muscles, cartilage, ligaments, tendons and fascia. This is a physically integrated framework that supports the weight of our bodies, allows us to rapidly adjust to resist external forces, and permits us to move freely in our environment. But without the aid of surrounding tension-generating muscles and tension-resisting tendons, ligaments and fascia, bones and cartilage would do little to support our upright forms.” –Donald Ingber, a professor of bioengineering

She lives in Virginia Beach with her husband.  Her two daughters have left the nest for college.  She enjoys spending time with family and friends.  Favorite activities include travelling, hiking, yoga and pilates, and studying the mind body connection.
